Become more than just a freediver

We believe there is a huge gap in the market tailored to safety and ocean awareness when it comes to freediving and exploring the ocean as a whole. Anyone can go and do a freedive course, or an instructors course for that matter, but what knowledge does a beginner freediver have about their local surroundings? We have created a safe space to educate and train you into a well equipped freediver ready to embrace the ocean and its elements.

Tapping into our expertise of Emergency Nursing & Environmental Science, together we have created a product that we believe is the perfect addition to your tool belt as a water enthusiast. Whether you’re new to the freediving world, freshly certified or self taught, we have curated a weekend of in depth activities and workshops to challenge, educate and empower you as a recreational dweller of the sea. We want you to leave the weekend away feeling totally capable and equipped with the know how in an array of environmental conditions. Anyone can become a freediver, but do you know how to safely choose a dive site? Act in an emergency? Or sustainably source and buy seafood? We’ve got you covered!

Is the world of freediving totally new to you and you’re craving that safe space to experience it? WorkShops

Ocean Awareness Workshop
Things everyone should know living near the ocean. In this workshop we will talk through elements of how to read environmental conditions including how to forecast and weather check online. Topics will cover tides, currents, swell, wind, visibility, reefs systems, resident marine life and more. After this workshop you should be able to look out from the beach and have a basic understanding of whats going on and how it may affect your dive. You will use these tools to predict dive conditions before the weekends dive.

Water Safety Workshop
Learn how to manage yourself and others safely in the marine environment. From theory to practical application, you will learn valuable skills like how to rescue someone from a shore dive. Other topics will include self rescue, fatigue, blackout rescue and the fun stuff - how to make a tourniquet on the fly, manage wounds large or small (yes, shark bite) and other first aid hacks.

Sustainable Seafood Workshop
Fishing or purchasing seafood sustainably is crucial to the future of not only our fish stocks but ocean ecosystems as a whole. We are told to ‘eat sustainably’ but this is extremely challenging in a green washed society where the word ‘eco’ and even ‘sustainable’ can mean many things! In this workshop you will be led by a special guest who will be teaching us how to ask the right questions in order to source sustainable seafood near you.

BOAT DAY DIVE SITE

Cook Island Aquatic Reserve
Cooly Eco Adventures is our operator for our fun dive session. Our tour begins with a 20min boat ride to Jungurra-Ngarrian (Cook Island Aquatic Reserve). The reserve lies approximately 600m off the shore of Fingal Head, NSW. It is a foraging ground to a significant number of sea turtles. The numbers are so significant that the island was originally named Turtle Island. It is here that we will dive in and meet these ‘turtally’ awesome locals! The surrounding waters of the reserve are also home to a wide variety of subtropical and temperate species of fish, crustaceans, and rays – just to name a few! Prepare to be awed by the magical underwater world that lies here on our doorstep!”

Testimonials

“After having such an epic experience with Liv and Georgie at Ningaloo in 2023, when I found out they were offering an ocean awareness and freediving weekend at Wye River, it was a no-brainer and I signed up immediately, and I loved every moment! Located in one of the most breathtaking locations on the Victorian coastline, and in awe-inspiring luxury accommodation – whew!! From the hands-on experience of harvesting our own seafood to gaining valuable insights into learning how to read dive conditions and carry out rescue scenarios, every moment was packed with learning and excitement. Liv and Georgie, with their extensive backgrounds in Emergency Nursing and Environmental Science, respectively, have crafted an educational experience that is both enriching and practical. I didn’t know how much I actually needed this weekend! The culinary aspect of the weekend was a standout, with David Moyle and Lilly Trewartha taking the helm in the kitchen. Their passion for food and master chef preparation of dishes, especially the unforgettable abalone moving feast, left us in awe. Their ability to create such inspiring meals from the sea's bounty was truly remarkable. And having special guest, Zach Clark and his shark presentation was icing on top. How lucky we were! I highly recommend this weekend for anyone interested in expanding their ocean toolkit - thanks to the exceptional team that made it so much fun, its branded in the memory bank forever.” - Linda

“The Wye River Water Warrior Retreat was my second adventure with Liv for the Sea. I’m starting to think that Liv and Georgie’s company ethos may be ‘Spoil your guests absolutely rotten!’. I learned so many valuable things to add to my Freediving toolbox and gained confidence in myself and my abilities. The location was absolutely amazing, a prime spot to practice the skills we were learning including how to find and plan for a safe dive location, reading weather and ocean conditions, and what to do in an emergency situation. Experiencing how to sustainably source and prepare Abalone was a true highlight as was sharing this whole weekend with amazing likeminded people. I’ve booked my third expedition with Liv for the Sea and already know it will be just like my last two, an experience of a lifetime. Thank you so much Liv and Georgie x” - Carly
