SCHOLARSHIP INITIATIVE

Imagine giving a local child the chance at an educated future?

To talk about our charity dream, you first need to know where it came from.

After the dive portion of our trip finished this year, four brave souls joined Liv and I for a rummage to a little village in the middle of nowhere where in PNG. This was a complete experiment, and big leap of faith on the part of our guests, but ended up being the highlight of the whole trip.

24hrs in this village felt like a lifetime. With no cars, bikes, scooters or boats the only way out was on foot, or on the back of the truck that did a run to town every morning. Kono had no running water, electricity, or shops. What they did have was a school, and the only thing they asked us for (apart from photos) was resources for their school.

In the jungle, in the middle of nowhere, this self sufficient town told us stories of vanishing fish and of the people who had been to tell them about the big mine that was going to be built just off their shore, but that was going to do no harm.

Since we started LFTS, we have been looking for a way to give back to the ocean. There’s been all the obvious answers, but nothing had felt quite like a fit until now.

Knowledge is power, as they say, and we felt the best way to help Kono fight for their oceans is through science. From now on, we will be running a not for profit cultural trip to Kono village.  The profits of this will go towards putting a child through high school, and supporting them on this journey.

We have a long way to go (see red tape) but we wanted to share with you the extra meaning behind our trips to PNG. Not only does supporting our business support education, but you’ll have the opportunity to see exactly where your money is going, all while having a life changing experience.

Feel free to ask us questions, challenge our intentions, or offer advice in navigating the not for profit space. We are here for it all. Liv and George xx
